Our Refinery Capacity

Our refinery meets the entire domestic demand for petroleum products and exports more than 40% of the products. The Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery plant processes 15 different products including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, black oil, petroleum coke, asphalt, lubricants etc.

Core Refining Services & Operations

Heydar Aliyev Refinery processes 21 out of 24 grades of Azerbaijani crude oil. Its core services are centered around four primary technological pillars.

  • Primary Crude Processing (ELOU-AVT)

    The refinery utilizes the ELOU-AVT-6 unit, a combined atmospheric-vacuum distillation facility. This is the "heart" of the refinery, where crude oil is desalted and separated into primary fractions.

  • Secondary Conversion & Cracking

    To maximize the yield of high-value light products, the refinery employs advanced cracking and coking technologies.

  • Fuel Quality Upgrading (Euro-5 Standards)

    A major component of their service offering is the hydrotreatment of fuels to meet international environmental standards.

  • Specialized Product Manufacturing

    Beyond standard fuels, the refinery provides specialized refining services for industrial applications.

Strategic Value & Environmental Commitment

The refinery's service model has shifted from simple volume production to value-added refining. By integrating flare gas recovery systems (partnering with Baker Hughes) and upgrading sewage treatment facilities, the refinery has significantly reduced its carbon footprint and methane emissions.

Heydar Refinery is supported by fully integrated utilities and offsites, including cogeneration and power distribution, demineralized and cooling water systems, effluent treatment plants, tank farms, blending facilities, and pipeline, truck, and marine export infrastructure.

As of 2024–2025, the refinery has achieved full domestic self-sufficiency for Euro-5 grade fuels, reducing the country's reliance on imported high-octane gasoline.
